Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

It said debris landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
