The network's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
