The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
