Ten years back, Barry featured in League Two. Now, he is focused supporting the head coach win the World Cup in 2026. The road from athlete to trainer commenced with a voluntary role coaching youngsters. He remembers, “Nights, a small field, tasked with 11 vs 11 … poor equipment, limited resources,” and he fell in love with it. He had found his destiny.

Staggering Ascent

Barry's progression has been remarkable. Commencing with his first major job, he established a reputation through unique exercises and strong interpersonal abilities. His club career included Chelsea and Bayern Munich, plus he took on roles with national teams across multiple countries. His players include stars like Thiago Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Cristiano Ronaldo. Today, as part of Team England, it's all-consuming, the peak as he describes it.

“All begins with a vision … However, I hold that dedication shifts obstacles. You dream big but then you bring it down: ‘How can we achieve it, gradually?’ Our goal is the World Cup. Yet dreams alone aren't enough. It's essential to develop a structured plan so we can to maximize our opportunities.”

Obsession with Details

Dedication, focusing on tiny aspects, is central to his philosophy. Working every hour all the time, the coaching duo test boundaries. Their strategies include player analysis, a plan for hot conditions ahead of the tournament in North America, and building a true team. Barry emphasizes “Team England” and dislikes phrases including "pause".

“It's not time off or a rest,” Barry says. “It was vital to establish a setup that attracts the squad and they're pushed that going back is a relief.”

Ambitious Trainers

The assistant coach says and the head coach as “very greedy”. “We aim to control all parts of the match,” Barry affirms. “We strive to own every metre of the pitch and that's our focus many of our days on. We must not just to keep up with developments and to lead and set new standards. This is continuous focused on finding solutions. And to clarify complicated matters.

“We have 50 days together with the team ahead of the tournament. We need to execute a sophisticated style that gives us a tactical advantage and we have to make it so clear in our 50 days with them. It's about moving it from thought to data to understanding to action.

“To build a methodology that allows us to be productive during the limited time, we have to use the entire 500 days we'll have since we took the job. When the squad is away, we need to foster connections with each player. We have to spend time on the phone with them, observing them live, understand them, connect with them. Relying only on those 50 days, we have no chance.”

World Cup Qualifiers

He is getting ready for the final pair of World Cup qualifiers – versus Serbia in London and Albania in Tirana. The team has secured their place at the finals with six wins out of six without conceding a goal. But there will be no easing off; instead. This period to reinforce the team’s identity, to gain more impetus.

“The manager and I agree that the style of play must reflect everything that is good of English football,” Barry says. “The athleticism, the versatility, the robustness, the work ethic. The Three Lions kit must be difficult to earn but light to wear. It should feel like a cape instead of heavy armour.

“To ensure it's effortless, we need to provide a system that lets them to play freely like they do every week, that feels natural and lets them release restrictions. They need to reduce hesitation and focus more on action.

“There are emotional wins you can get as a coach in the first and final thirds – starting moves deep, closing down early. But in the middle area in that part of the ground, we believe play has stagnated, especially in England's top flight. Coaches have extensive data currently. They can organize – structured defenses. Our aim is to focus on accelerating the game through midfield.”

Thirst for Improvement

His desire for development is relentless. When he studied for the Uefa pro licence, he was worried regarding the final talk, especially as his class contained luminaries like Lampard and Carrick.
